How to Use LA Theatre Map – What are you here for?

“I want a good theatre around me.”

Open the Map or Near Me and look around. That's the whole answer. If you can't manage it by just looking around, then I'm a bad UI designer and you should tell me so.

“I'm just visiting.”

Then “near me” should mean near your hotel, not near your house 2,000 miles away. See the little chip up in the top bar, next to the logo — GPS or Approx.? It's a bit hidden, I know. Click it, find the box labelled Set location, and type where you're staying — a ZIP, or a lat, lng from Google Maps. Everything distance-based now measures from there.

*Grabbing coordinates from Google Maps: on a computer, right-click your hotel and the first line of the menu is the coordinates; on your phone, press and hold the spot to drop a pin, then swipe up the card that slides in — the coordinates are near the bottom, sometimes folded under Nearby address— and tap them to copy. Paste it in exactly as copied, parentheses and all — (34.1234567, -118.7654321) works as-is.

“Just tell me which theatres are good.”

I'm not going to publish a ranked list of theatres — that's a great way to make fifty enemies in one afternoon. But a friend of mine made one. Open their list, hit Add all to my favorites, and from then on you can flip on the favorites filter anywhere on the site to see only their picks. Un-favorite the ones you disagree with. They'll never know.
