Synopsis

Hilarious and poignant, this staged reading of A Lesson In Swimming takes you inside three-time stroke survivor Michael Shutt’s brain as it “breaks” and invites you to experience how deep the cracks really go. After being left partially blind, partially paralyzed, and partial to chocolate pudding, Michael sets out on a fantastical quest to put the pieces of his broken brain back together. Written and performed by Shutt and directed by Diana Wyenn, this play weaves humor, heartbreak, and theatrical magic into an unforgettable and triumphant experience.

This production is part of Amplify — an initiative to address the inequality in performing arts programming. This program provides a platform and outlet for performing artists of all kinds, while expanding the inclusivity and outreach of the Curtis Theatre to a diverse artistic community.
