Synopsis

A monarch gives away his kingdom and an entire nation pays the price. Shakespeare’s masterpiece returns to the Globe’s outdoor stage for the first time in nearly two decades—an epic theatrical event under the stars. Jay O. Sanders—hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a national treasure”—brings commanding presence and extraordinary emotional power to a ruler whose demand for public devotion unleashes betrayal, madness, war, and heartbreak. Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, whose dynamic and emotionally powerful Shakespeare productions have become a signature of summer at the Globe, brings the full sweep and intensity of this towering tragedy to life in what is sure to be a landmark production and a national event.
