Premiered at Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City Festival, the production honors the creativity, influence, and resilience of women across generations, from Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, and Ms. Lauryn Hill, to Rapsody and Doechii. Through newly imagined orchestration and street dance vocabularies, it reimagines the hip-hop canon through the lens of female and gender-expansive artistry. Passing the Crown makes its Los Angeles premiere and welcomes MC Lyte, 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, two-time GRAMMY Award nominee, multiple Gold and Platinum recording artist, the first female MC to release a solo Hip-Hop album, and the first Hip-Hop artist to perform at the White House, whose influence spans four decades of Hip-Hop. This is more than a performance. It’s a powerful declaration that uplifts the royalty, resilience, and artistry of Hip-Hop's Queens.
